Dont Look Up 480p

Image
It takes a certain kind of touch, a populist brilliance, to know that “Milk was a bad choice” could help launch a comedy empire. Adam McKay had that when he scoured through the many improvised lines of “Anchorman,” and co-created what will probably be known as the last movement of American blockbuster comedy. And he continued that touch with the unmitigated triumph “The Big Short,” venturing to educate moviegoers about the housing crisis using movie stars and furious monologues. But McKay is mightily thwarted by the larger scope of “Don’t Look Up,” a hybrid of his comedic and dramatic instincts that only dreams of being insightful about social media, technology, global warming, celebrity, and in general, human existence. A disastrous movie, “Don’t Look Up” shows McKay as the most out of touch he’s ever been with what is clever, or how to get his audience to care. You have to wait 7 seconds. Pitch Black 2021

Image
No other movie opening thrills me more than a vast ship in interstellar space. The modern visual rules for these shots were set by Stanley Kubrick's "2001," which used a detailed model moving slowly instead of a cheesy model moving fast. Kubrick had the good sense to know that sound does not travel in space, but "Star Wars," with its deep bass rumbles, demonstrated that it certainly should. And then in the "Alien" and "Star Trek" pictures and in countless others, gigantic space cruisers aimed majestically at the stars, and I felt an inner delight that has its origins in those long-ago days when I devoured pulp space opera by Robert Heinlein and such forgotten masters as Murray Leinster and Eric Frank Russell. Madhuram 2021

Image
Ahammed Khabeer’s story is about hospital bystanders, which he has directed with beautiful visuals, especially of the food. As a pair of hands carefully drew spirals with a liquid squeezed out of a towel and they turned into hissing jilebis in a pan, I thought Madhuram was going to be about sweets, a food movie that is so rare in Malayalam. Food plays a really big part in the movie, but Madhuram is more about the sweetness in people that comes from the unquestionable love they have for one another. Joju George, the big burly actor with a beard and a mop of unruly hair, becomes an epitome of sweetness in this film, a world away from the gruff characters he is known for. He, with the help of the unfailing Indrans and a talented crew of younger actors, gives us a cosy ride with Madhuram. You have to wait 9 seconds. The Beta Test 2021

Image
Indie director Jim Cummings and co-star PJ McCabe have made a scornful part-thriller about an unctuous agent in thrall to the system writer-director-actor Jim Cummings’ has already made two films, Thunder Road and The Wolf of Snow Hollow, which were very well received on the American indie circuit. His latest, The Beta Test, co-written and directed with its co-star PJ McCabe, is part delicious satire of Hollywood culture and part frustratingly muddled thriller. But the good bits are sufficiently impressive it wouldn’t be fair to hold its flaws against it too much. We mustn’t be greedy for perfection Greed, as it happens, is probably the major sin of a Tinseltown agent called Jordan (played by Cummings), followed closely by lust, wrath, pride and envy.
