KGF movie review: The impressively-mounted sets make up for Prashanth Neel's flimsy storyline. Composer Ravi Basrur lifts up the scenes with his terrific background orchestra. KGF movie cast: Yash, Srinidhi Shetty, Achyuth Kumar, Anant Nag KGF movie director: Prashanth Neel KGF rating: 2.5 stars KGF: Chapter 1 opens with India’s woman prime minister signing an order to end the reign of the country’s most dreaded criminal. Of course, it’s Rocky (Yash). The lord of the criminal world had a very humble beginning. He was raised in Mysore by a single mother, who died due to poverty when he was still young. Before bidding adieu, she gives the protagonist a goal to chase: get rich by any means necessary. A madman on streets tells the impressionable boy the means to achieve his goal: become powerful. It takes a certain kind of touch, a populist brilliance, to know that “Milk was a bad choice” could help launch a comedy empire. Adam McKay had that when he scoured through the many improvised lines of “Anchorman,” and co-created what will probably be known as the last movement of American blockbuster comedy. And he continued that touch with the unmitigated triumph “The Big Short,” venturing to educate moviegoers about the housing crisis using movie stars and furious monologues. But McKay is mightily thwarted by the larger scope of “Don’t Look Up,” a hybrid of his comedic and dramatic instincts that only dreams of being insightful about social media, technology, global warming, celebrity, and in general, human existence.
